THURSDAY MATHS

Hello everyone,

For the next 3 weeks during Maths, we are learning about length as part of a Measurement unit.  We are looking at things which are tall, short, big, small as well as making comparisons of length between 2 different objects.  Today we used a 'bear paw print' to determine whether our feet are longer or shorter than this print.  Then we made other 'animal' prints in the sandpit to determine whether they would be longer or shorter than our 'bear paw print'.

Hello there everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break with your families.  It was wonderful to see all your children's smiling faces again today!

I just thought I would share some photos from our Reading session today.  The Rutherford Team are trialling a new computer programme called 'Sunshine Online' and one of the reading activities the children could choose from today was to practise some basic sight words with this programme.  It was fabulous to see how motivated they were to use this programme and help each other with the tasks.

Well done Room 2 children!

Wednesday 23 March 2016

Hi there everyone,

The focus today was all about Easter.  We talked about how Holy Thursday and what happened on this very special night.  As part of this we acted out the Last Supper.  First, Jesus washed the feet of his apostles ....

Then he shared his body and blood with them .....

It was very special to have Miss Shaw be a part of our reenactment of the Last Supper.

It was wonderful to be able to act out the story of the Last Supper so as to further develop the children's understanding of this significant event.  Thank you so so much to Mrs Salins for coming in to make the unleavened bread with the children this morning - we truly couldn't have done without you!

Just a wee reminder about tomorrow's Easter liturgy - it is at 2.15 in the hall and you will be able to take your children home straight afterwards.

Monday 21 March 2016

Hello everyone,

I just cannot believe how much your children are learning at the moment!  They are all making wonderful progress in all areas - they all definitely deserve a 5 day weekend this weekend!

Today the Berenstein Bears shared their reading with us ....

Aren't they amazing???

Just a wee reminder about the Easter liturgy on Thursday afternoon.  This will be in the Hall at 2.15 and you will be able to take your children home straight afterwards (after you have let all your children's teachers know!).  I hope you will all be able to join us for this special celebration.

Wednesday 16 March 2016

Hello there everyone,

I had 2 very excited children in Room 2 on Monday who really wanted to share their reading with the class so that I could post the clip on the blog.  So here it is!!!

Yesterday we also had the 3rd of our hockey skills sessions with Emma from Canterbury Sport.  The children are learning so many skills such as how to correctly hold a hockey stick, how to dribble, pass and block the hockey ball.  AND they really love the game at the end ....

See you all tomorrow :)

Saturday 12 March 2016

Hello everyone,

I hope you've all had a great week and for those of you who have had children away on the Batten Team camp, I know that you will be enjoying having your children back home again.  There was lots of discussion in Room 2 this week about those older siblings who were away - the children were standing at the window watching the buses as they arrived back on Wednesday!

Things have been moving swiftly along in Room 2 - so swiftly in fact that I have forgotten to take many photos and so haven't had anything to post on the blog!  Here are some photos that I DID manage to take .....

On Tuesday we had our 2nd hockey skills session with Emma from Sports Canterbury.  First we learnt to roll the ball,

Then we rolled the ball to a partner who tried to hit it,

Then we practiced hitting the ball to one another,

Then it was game time!!!!!

On Friday we looked at aspects of Pablo Picasso's work and then started to make our own version of a Picasso painting.  Unfortunately I forgot to take any photos until right at the end!!!!  BUT, we are finishing our piece next Friday so I will post some photos then.

And Fridays wouldn't be Fridays, without TRUMP time .....

See you on Monday :)

Sunday 6 March 2016

Hello there everyone,

We have just had another busy week in Room 2!

Our hockey skills sessions started on Tuesday with Emma from Hockey Canterbury.  She taught the children how to correctly hold the stick and how to dribble the ball on the end of our sticks.

On Friday we had our class Mass with Room 1.  Thank you so much to everyone who was able to celebrate this Mass with us - the children just love having you there with them.

On Friday afternoon, we had some very creative children during our TRUMP time.  Take a look ....

TRUMP time is a wonderful chance for the children to work together on any of the tasks which are available to them - it is great to hear the way they include each other and learn the skills to co-operate with one another.

I will see you all in the morning :)
